Bilingual Books Help Young Children Learn the Spanish Alphabet

Friday, December 16th, 2011

It’s true!  The Spanish alphabet is different from the English alphabet!

But it’s not so different that you and your child can’t learn it with my Boca Beth song titled Rappin the Spanish Alphabet (available as a FREE You Tube video from Monday’s blog post or on our More Boca Beth bilingual music CD which is only $9 with the 40% savings code of JOLLY for Christmas / Hanukkah shopping fun!).

I thought I would help you with some additional visual learning today by suggesting some cool books for the Spanish alphabet:

This book titled The Alphabet / El alfabeto is fantastic and is presented in  board book style for toddlers and preschoolers who are learning to read.      Experts agree that children CAN learn their native and a new language in  print by using tools such as this book with someone interacting with the  child during the reading time.

I realize it says it’s out of stock on Amazon, but you can find it other places (and check out the price of only Used at $1.22!!!!)

The Alphabet / El alfabeto (English and Spanish Foundations Series) (Book #1) (Bilingual) (Board Book) (English and Spanish Edition)Next up is this easy-to-use, interactive coloring picture book to help children learn the Spanish language and its alphabet.  It’s in stock and can be purchased for only $1.90 NEW!!!  I have found with that I bundle together a bunch of products and save on shipping from the same vendor so watch who are buying from and try to buy from them all of your items.

Lastly, keeping in step with technology, is a Kindle edition of what seems to be a very cool ABC Bilingual Learning Book.    For only $5 you download this animal themed learning game tool, and witness your child learning the alphabet in both English and Spanish from what they say!

My First Spanish ABC Picture Coloring Book (Dover Children's Bilingual Coloring Book)Alpha's ABC's Games

There you have it amigas and amigos!  A fun literacy-based wrap up to help YOU introduce the Spanish alphabet to your young children (and YOU might learn it right along with them!).

Suggested circle time activity to do hand-in-hand with this fun Boca Beth song:

A fun and easy to understand song that brings the ABCs in Spanish to life. The reason this song is not bilingual is because the alphabets in English and Spanish differ quite a bit on certain letters so that there is no direct point of reference that would be easy for a preschool age child nor an elementary school age child to understand.

We free form dance our way through it or if you are feeling “creative” and “brave” you create the dance steps and it becomes a “you do what I do” lesson with lots of smiles and laughs (not to mention the early literacy skills involved as the children recognize sounds of letters in another language – allowing the child to better comprehend his own native language sounds).

There are visual aids to assist with this introduction of ABCs in Spanish that are sold at local learning stores or on web sites like – based on the age of children you are introducing the Spanish ABCs to will determine what you should get. Spanish Alphabet

Our online bilingual show for kids of all ages shared lots of fun learning this morning – songs about vowel sounds, food/comida and water/agua plus a very easy-to-follow Spanish Alphabet Song that native Spanish speaker and teacher Anna says this about:

I have found that BOCA BETH‘s Alphabet song is the first song I have been able to use with my Spanish class. The song is accurate and presents ALL of the letters in the Spanish alphabet. I have never been able to use a recording of a Spanish alphabet song in class before, because the whole Spanish alphabet was not used in the song. I am so excited that I am finally able to use a Spanish Alphabet song in my classroom! I also love the ¿ Cómo te llamas ? song. My kids love it too. There are large quantities of Spanish instruction materials out there, but I am encouraged that the songs I have chosen to use from the Boca Beth Program are helping me to instruct my students in a correct use of the Spanish language. Thanks BOCA BETH!

Here at The Boca Beth Program I have tried to make it super-easy for any parent, teacher, adult to give their special young children a jump start on learning Spanish before elementary school!  Hope these lessons on the Spanish Alphabet are fun and easy for you to use this week.

See It, Say It, Write It: Learn the Spanish Alphabet with Boca Beth

Friday, March 12th, 2010

I was training in Minnesota after conducting my morning inspirational keynote, and  a fellow early childhood professional was reminding me that for our adult brain to really process a new concept we need to see it, say it, and write it!

So today’s lesson is thanks to that new amiga from Dakota County Family Child Care  reminding me of the basics of adult learning.  (I will provide the last part of the Spanish alphabet later this weekend!)

Hear The Spanish Alphabet  Click the audio link to the left and listen in on the Spanish alphabet!

I have two different audio links in this blog post:  one is to hear the Spanish alphabet all the way through and one is to hear and repeat after me the letters A – Ñ.  My suggestion would be to then use the last audio link again to write the letters as you hear them (the Spanish alphabet letters used are listed below as the alfabeto Español is just a bit different than the English alphabet).

Repeat Letters A – Ñ   I would suggest you listen and repeat, then listen and write the letters.

a, b, c, ch, d, e, f, g, h, i, j, k, l, ll, m, n, ñ
