Hispanic Population Reaches 50 Million! Now Do You Believe Your Kids Should Learn a Second Language?
Friday, March 25th, 2011I am so thankful I am a Christian woman and am able to calmly walk away from potentially confrontational situations surrounding what I do for a living.
What? You don’t find being a children’s recording artist, keynote speaker on the topic of early language learning and kids’ bilingual product designer in the least controversial, do you?
“Listen in” on a few of the recent comments flung at me with almost hate in the person’s voice delivering the comment to me after I told them that I am the founder of a company that empowers young children to learn Spanish and English by providing tools to parents and teachers that make the learning fun:
What the hell do you do THAT for?
What choice do we have these days? We’re FORCED to learn Spanish.
Why in the world would you promote anything other than English in this country?
The 2010 Census should simply open our minds (and hearts) here in the United States to the fact that with 1 in 6 Americans having Spanish as their first language, it’s our responsibility to prepare our young children to communicate in both English and Spanish.
Just as we teach them reading, writing, math, science, and social studies we must prepare these young minds to communicate in more than just one language. It’s a global economy, and it’s our duty as parents and teachers to prepare this next generation of children to be bilingual.
Happy Educating! ¡Sea feliz educando!
