Bilingual Resources That Make Your Job Easier as a Monolingual Parent/Teacher

Thursday, January 27th, 2011

This week’s lesson from my Fiesta Fun online show (find us over at every Tuesday morning at 10 am EST) centers around children learning vocabulary words in Spanish and English around parts of the body.  The replay of the show is available online at this link.

Below are some fun, easy-to-access and practical resources that introduce Spanish-speaking children to English and English-speaking children to Spanish:

See It!  Say It!  ~ Listen in and read the vocabulary words at our free bilingual resource area today!  (click the link to the left and go about three sections down the page to find parts of the body)

My Body / Mi cuerpo (English and Spanish Foundations Series) (Book #8) (Bilingual) (Board Book) (English and Spanish Edition)

Free bilingual language cards ~ Simply click the link to the left, find the cards for ear/oreja and nose/nariz on this page, print them off and laminate them for long term use, then look around for other flashcards you find interesting to use

Bilingual books are always great ~  Use this book (link is to the left) for reinforcing the parts of the body sung about in our Movin’ & Groovin’ song.  Try this one also – both are wonderful and bilingual (meaning they feature Spanish and English on every page)

It’s easy finding resources that bring the bilingual learning to life using the internet!  Try it!  Then share with us in the comments below what other Spanish and English learning tools you found for young children learning parts of the body.  Gracias/Thank you.

It's Time to Respond to 2010 Census Stats: Preparing Our Young Children for a Global Economy

Friday, January 14th, 2011

What time is it?  It’s time to help our young children get a jump start on learning more than just English!

I know, I know!   Some of you cringe when it’s mentioned that our students of the United States should concentrate their efforts on subjects other than English, Math & Science.  How dare I even suggest that learning Spanish as a 2nd language is important as well?!?!

Once the next round of 2010 Census Stats are released some of us will be rudely awakened to the fact that there is no room for the old “English only” mentality.

Watch how fun and easy (and non-politically influenced) it can be to help preschool age children learn a second language with music and movement fun.

Read this article over at my web site on the top 3 benefits of introducing a 2nd language to little kids … it’s not just about learning Spanish.  It’s about powering their brains, super-charging their lifetime language learning skills, and giving them an academic boost that will carry them througout their life!

Helping Young Children Learn Spanish and Math Concepts is FUN! with Boca Beth

Tuesday, January 11th, 2011

Wow!  Our bilingual TV show Fiesta Fun on is going strong, and it’s FREE to tune every Tuesday morning at 10 am EST!

I can’t think of any stay-at-home mom, any preschool teacher, any homeschooling family that wouldn’t just love, love, love this new Boca Beth stuff!  Check out how easy we make it to introduce time to little children along with breakfast, lunch and dinner via our YouTube video, then tune in weekly for my upbeat, music and movement Fiesta Fun online show.

Below are the lyrics for this fun bilingual song from the Boca Beth Program which is on our second CD titled More Boca Beth / Más Boca Beth available for only $14.99 by clicking here.  This entire CD introduces 150 words and 30 phrases in both languages – Spanish & English – using the methodology that many experts are saying is THE BEST way to introduce a new language to children who are still learning skills in their native language … using a TRUE bilingual format!!!  That is what we do here at Boca Beth!

“What Time Is It?/¿ Qué hora es ?”
(sung to the tune of “Are You Sleeping?”)

What time is it?
¿ Qué hora es ?
I need to know!
¡ Tengo que saber !

It is eight o’clock.
Son las ocho.
Time for breakfast!
¡ Hora de desayunar !

Repeat chorus

It is twelve o’clock.
Son las doce.
Time for lunch!
¡ Hora de almorzar !

Repeat chorus

It is six thirty.
Son las seis y media.
Time for dinner!
¡ Hora de cenar !

And now the suggested circle time / classroom activity to go hand-in-hand with this easy-to-follow Boca Beth bilingual song for children:

This is an echo song. I ask the children if they remember what an echo is. I praise the correct answer person and ask them to be my echo in this fun song about telling time in Spanish and English. If the children are old enough to get the concept, they can act out the time of day while singing about it. We hold our arms out in the position of 8 o’clock, then straight above our heads for 12 o’clock, then pointing down towards the ground for 6:30.

Each week I hope to deliver the following highlights (not always in this order):

  • Upbeat and interactive bilingual songs from my Boca Beth Program & Product Line
  • Fun facts on why it’s so important to start the 2nd language journey EARLY in a child’s life
  • Lesson plan fun to go along with many of the songs from our weekly children’s bilingual show
  • Hints at where our special monthly live stream will be located (once a month I will host my show – called Fiesta Fun – from a location other than my home office)
  • Random giveaways of our Boca Beth bilingual fun products and other bilingual resources I love

So amigas, amigos / friends it’s going to be a GREAT year of language learning fun for you, for your children, for your students.  Marvel at how quickly young children can acquire a 2nd language when music & movement fun is involved!
