Parents Prepare for Opportunities of a New Decade

Tampa, FL – December 30, 2009 – – Did you know that more than 500 million people worldwide speak Spanish?  Spanish is the second most used language in international communication, and Spanish is one of the six official languages of the United Nations.  As we enter into a new decade, parents are looking for avenues to provide their young children a way to succeed in this ever-shrinking world.  Learning Spanish will be one of the keys to success in the next decade.

The Boca Beth Program, a global provider of children’s edutainment, today has released a revised edition of their best-selling bilingual DVD titled Mi casa/My House just in time for the start of 2010.

The Boca Beth Program, created by Beth Butler, leading expert on bilingual education for the birth – five sectors, bridges together Spanish and English language learning for parents and their children with a methodology called parallel learning.  With Latino population increasing more than 2 million annually across our nation it’s no wonder President Obama stated during his campaign, “You need to make sure your child can speak Spanish.”

Parents in the United States and world wide feel a sense of urgency to prepare their children for a very global economy as this new decade approaches.  The launch of this enhanced bilingual Boca Beth DVD marches in a new era of increased bilingual learning.

The Dialect Dilemma for Spanish Speakers is Given Brief Reprieve

Friday, December 11th, 2009

What a joy to wake up and read on the internet and in the good old fashioned print newspaper about the Spanish Royal Academy’s recent efforts in providing some updated grammar guidelines for those of us who love Spanish as our native or second (or third) language!

5_Spain_Watch_Your_Grammar.sff.jpg

You can read a very quick overview here of the recent and very welcome findings presented recently.

Or you can Take a read here of what’s already being reported on this 4,000-page tome.

Now what does a blonde-hair, blue-eyed, Irish/Greek girl care about all this dialect nonsense?  Since the Spanish Royal Academy flat out admits that there are some 20 ways to say ballpoint pen in Spanish and they specifically say “Spanish is full of differences in pronunciation, vocabulary and ways sentences are constructed” perhaps I won’t get as many calls or e-mails asking me why our Boca Beth bilingual song uses the word café for the color brown and not marrón.

And perhaps those who somewhat seem to complain that my Spanish accent is too Chilean (I lived in Chile as I became conversationally fluent in Spanish in my late teens) will now give this little bilingual teacher a break!  I never set out to be politically correct with our children’s Spanish and English songs!

I just wanted to have fun, share something that fellow teachers for years had told me “was too good to keep just in my classroom” and perhaps make a business out of creating the Boca Beth Program.  Today’s announcement and hoopla surrounding the grammar findings of the second language I am so passionate about makes me proud to say that I am part of this amazing movement…the blending together of the various dialects within the Spanish language to improve the communication of our world.

And I am doing it!  One song at a time!

Raising Trilingual Preschoolers?

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009

So you read that three word question and think to yourself, “No way!”

We all hear the earlier, the better and a study out of Texas a few years back reports that young children under the age of 5 can successfully learn up to 5 languages.  These little children begin to code switch – which is what the sign of a true linguistic professional is by the way.
